Fuel Pump

Hi My friends fuel pump on his 89 bird is going bad
and he is only getting about 20 psi out of it instead of 43 but what i was wondering was if it would be possibile to just put an inline pump in and leave the factory pump to die. So if the factory pump stops working completely will this hold up the fuel.
Thanx in advance

I wouldn't do it.. your flow will be restricted

the right way to do it would be to take the old one out and extend the pickup and then put an in-line pump in
