EGR Problems
Last weekend I finished up my springtime mods/tune-up on my 91 GTA (305 TPI auto). I put plates on my car on Friday and was hoping that I had put everything back together properly and that I wouldn't get any trouble codes. I drove my car for about half an hour and put on over 20 miles before the service engine soon light came on. I discovered that it was a code 32 (EGR failure). I can beat on my car all day in the city and no trouble code will show up but if I do a 0-70 mph WOT run, the SES light will come on. I can go easy on the gas and set the cruise at 65 mph on no SES light comes on. It only comes on when I punch it at higher speeds.
I thought that maybe the SES light came on because my car had been in storage since August 30th and that I had old gas in the tank. I burned that off this weekend and put some 91 octane gas in but the SES light still came on. Do you think that I need a new EGR or that the SES light will stop coming on just from driving it some more. Does anyone have any other ideas as to what could be wrong with my car?
My car has 68,000 miles on it. The EGR was replaced five years ago at 59,000 miles.
I did the following mods/tune-up stuff this month:
Cleaned throttle body & plenum
Ported the plenum
Holley APFR (set at 47 psi)
Hypertech 180 * thermostat
TPS set at 0.54
Bosch o2 Sensor

Check the vacuum hose routing and condition at the ER solenoid. Make sure the electrical connector at the solenoid is intact. You might also want to check the EGR diagnostic temperature switch and its connection.

It turns out that I ran the plastic vacuum line that attaches to the throttle body above the fuel rail and when I put my car back together, it was crushed by the plenum and it broke. I just used a piece of rubber hose to join the vacuum line again and the car runs perfect now. Thanks for the help.
