will a bad egr valve cause an erratic idle?

Not too bad,more time consuming than hard.You need to remove the upper intake system to get at it.Mine through an egr code once,so I took the plenum off and sprayed a little top engine cleaner(I think GM says NOT to) up inside the egr valve and moved the diaphram up and down a few times,and hasn't thrown a code since.
