Anyone with AFR 195's and hooker 2210's?

I just put the headers on and can't seem to get the #7 plug to go in. What is the solution? Also, do I have to run shorty plugs for this to work? I will be spraying nitrous so I'll be checking plugs quite often. I don't want to undo my headers every time to get the plug out. The plug I am using is AC FR3LS. Also, I don't want to dimple the header if it can be prevented.

Same problem here. I had to shorten an Accel plug to go into the #7 hole. Nobody makes a shorty plug that has a tapered seat. PM me if you want more details.

Sorry meant to say gasketed seat, not tapered.

Are your heads straight or angle plugs? I ask cause I have new AFR 210's going on my 383 and these are angle plugs. I'm also getting ready to send out my 2210's to Jet Hot so if I need to bang around for clearance I'd just soon get it over with before they get prettied up.

Straight plug on mine. IHI, you might want to mock up your headers first, just to be sure.

I have AFR 195's and the hookers...with angle plug and it fits great....tons of room. I read somewhere that the straight plug head will not work without some custom spark plug modifications.

Check out this link to see how to shorten the plugs.

http://home.comcast.net/~ricktpi/sparkplugs.htm

If you need to shorten them, take an angle grinder with a tile cutting blade & score the porcelin down about 3/8" from the base of the tip. Be careful not to cut into the metal core. Once seperated, tap the short top piece of porcelin to break it up & it will fall off. Cut the metal core off just below the flange leaving enough to cut new threads with a die & screw the tip back on. I tried it with the AC plugs, but the construction is different. I was not confident the plug would be reliable.

I have the straight plug heads and I just got the headers back from A.C.S. I would definitely check clearance before coating them.

I've read that many times, but then I seen this post and got to thinkin...that's always a bad thing when ya start thinkin

Got my cam today unexpectedly, Bullet Cams will forever get my vote if your looking for great personal service when selecting a cam for a race engine. So I should have the short block in my hands in a few weeks, gotta get time to take the cam/timing chain/cover up to get it degreed and endplay set. I think a quick mock up, even for nothing more than ****ss and giggles may be a wise thing to do...hate like heck to spend almost $300 for coating and then beat the snot out of it

416. I was told 2 years ago 416S did not exist. Maybe they came out with them since.

Sweets10...they are the conventional angle plug design....not the L98 angle. HTH.

Unfortunately they just don't make shortie plugs for those heads. Beleive me, I tried to find them. They don't exist. I settled on a set of Autolite 3924 plugs which are just the tinyest smidge shorter and gave me a bit more clearance around my headers. I didn't have interference problems like you do (straight plug AFRs, different headers). MAYBE they will get you the clearance you need, maybe not. Might be worth comparing one to your existing plugs.

If that fails, dimpling a header tube is still a time honored tradition in hotrodding.
