i have read countless articles on the site, but i am kind of a dumass sometimes and don't pick up on things
so i have a 305 TBI
wondering what the exact procedure is to advance the timing on this car would be, and what your recomendations to timing are, i seem to hear 4 and 8 a lot

simple actually

well first thing you have to do is put a paper clip in the A and B terminals in the aldl (the plug in by your fuses). then disconnect a couple wires from your dist (I forget which ones). get your timing light and dist wrench out...ohh yeah, clean the timing tab up so you can read it and put a white mark on the line on your balancer, you will see what I'm talking about)...anyway loosen the hold down clamp on the dist so you can move it a little then point your light at the balancer and you will see where your timing is set at. I belive factory is 0*, you want to set it at between 4 and 8*, I personally have mine at about 4 1/2 but go to whatever it takes to get a nice idle.
I hope I didn't confuse you any and if I'm off on somthing I hope someone corrects me but if I am remembering correctly that should do it. good luck

out of curiosity where in WI are you?

hey im from appleton.....anyways your right, the timing light has to be on cylinderone, or plug one. the wires that you should disconnect is the igniton wire at the distributer. and yes u have to move the distributer to time it. i think i have mine at 6 but like red90bird said. set at what will make ur car idle right.
