HEI?
HEI stands for something like High Energy Induction.. It just means it's got more volts going through it. (IIRC, they tend to be bigger so there's less chance or arcing with that increased voltage.)

HEI is High Energy Ignition, which is merely the trade name GM came up with for their electronic ignition to set it apart from the points system used earlier. They first appeared in late 74 production vehicles. The original design has a large distributor cap with the coil mounted in it; it is a self-contained ignition system, you just have to hook battery up to it and it needs nothing else to work which makes it a great retrofit.
