I hate v belts!!!! (please help before track day tomorrow)
I have been having porblems for about 2 years with my belts, they just keep flying off at anything over 6 grand. I originally took off my power steering belt, and this helped the belt issue alot. Every now and then it still bucks the other belt when over 6 thousand rpm. I'm at the point of getting an electric waterpump and fan, but I would still have that long run to the alternator.... I'm just soo confused, all the pulleys have no wobble, and look to be inline perfectly. Is there anyway the waterpump might have too much resistance at around 6 thousand and is causing the belt to kinda of slip on the pulley, maybe binding and flying off... I was also thinking about making some kind of a bracket to run a bearing on the backside of the pulley on the waterpump, keeping the belt in the groove on the pulley. my neighbor has a solid cam motor he spins to 7700 rpm regularly with the same v-belt setup as mine and has no probs with it at all. He suggested trying a larger alternator pulley as well. once again any input is greatly appreciated, thanks gang.

First of all, just because your neighbor has a solid cam and can spin to 7700 does not mean its ok for you to. You have a hydraulic flat tappet. Im betting that if you go anywhere NEAR there, you will experience valve float amonst a few other risks.
Anyway, from your other post, if the balancer is bolted down as far as it can go, i doubt the balancer pulley is the issue. The interia ring could slip which would throw off the balancer hub, but that wouldnt effect the pulley. When you toss pulleys, does just one go? Or when one goes, they all go? If just one goes, i would suspect the cause to be in the corresponding accessory pulley. i.e if the alternator is the one throwing, then the issue is in the alternator pulley. But if they all tend to go around the same time, i would check the water pump pulley. Also, does it 'chirp' at higher RPM's? And how much belt deflection do you have?

If you're running that big mechanical fan, that might be it. My belt used to squeel above 5000 no matter what till I went to an electric fan. So far, my belts have stayed on at 7000 rpm.

I obviously know I cant rev my engine up to 7500 rpm. I was saying he has no probs with his v-belts staying on at that rpm and I have problems at 6000. I have a small plastic flex fan (no more big metal one). I put a new belt back on it and took the thicker washer off of the far left bolt and put a smaller one in there. I made 8 passes at the track last night and it never came off. I'll just keep hoping it stays that way for a while.
