Fluid capacities for 87 GTA
I need to know how much oil, tranny fluid and rear gear lube this thing holds. Any info is much appreciated.

SBC should hold 5 quarts of oil with oil change and filter
usually 3 quarts in the trans for a filter change
rear holds 1 1/2 quarts, fill it till it runs out the fill port.

Think of it this way, a tiny 1.8 B18 engine holds 3.5 quarts, the 3.0L 6 cylinders in late 90's Taurus holds 5.5 quarts. See where I get the number from now?
I'll drain my oil tomorrow on my LO3 and fill it back up, take a picture of the oil pump meter just to show you that I'm not talking out of my ***.

5 quarts way too low? 7 quarts? Buddy, put the crack pipe down and back away slowly. Well maybe you ought to run away from it as fast as you can. You are starting to really reaffirm my initial impression of you.
To show me you're not talking out of your ***, find me your owners manual that shows me you engine capacity.
Failing that show me a repair manual that shows those capacities. I bet you can't. I've got the chiltons right here, the haynes and the GM one in the garage. Want to know what the Chilton manual says? No? Tough.
1987 GTA
oil: 4 qt.s - add 1 qt for new filter (note:unless you are mathimatically challenged, this does not add up to 7 qts.)
tranny: 10 pints after draining (note:5 qts. for the mathmatically challenged-pre '86 is 7 pints)
drive axle: 3.5 pints
Stop being an ignorant (you do remember the definition of this word correct?) know-nothing and wasting people's time!!!! You are gonna get some newb to listen to you and blow his/her car up! Stop it!!
Just because one engine takes X capacity has no beiring on a completely different motor!! Wanna lesson?
My '98 SHO take 6.5 quarts with a new filter and it's only a 3.4l V-8.
Using your logic, that was only 3.4l and it's an 8 like a 350, the 350 is 5.7l, 1.912 qts./l that would be... 10.9 qts for the 350 right? Just stop PLEASE!!! sit here like most people and read and learn. When you have an answer, not a guess, an answer based on EXPERIENCE feel free to post.
You fail to understand that ede posted not a guess, but his KNOWLEDGE based on YEARS OF EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!! *** I'm sick of kids like you. It's why a lot of the older members leave or don't post, or rarely check in. Do you even realize that your dumb *** answer could cause someone to damage their vehicle? Not everone is as well off as you allege to be, with your worldwide drag racing company, so if you cause them to fry their car, they have nothing to fall back on.
Make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? I get that feeling after helping someone fix their stuff, not break/ruin it.

You're supposed to be a moderator, not an instigator. I don't have to prove ****. Still waiting on pics? There's something called "work", try it sometime, you might actually enjoy it.
Instead of being the only member trolling me, a simple, "Unlike most engines, a 5.7 in this case only holds 5" answer would have done fine. By flaming me about it, I hope it made your e-dick grow 2 more inches.

Yikes. Ask a simple question (no such thing as a dumb question) and watch a flame war break out. Only on the Internet, gotta love it.

Want to know why?
Lets see...
5.0 Chevy....4qts. +1 for filter
5.0 Chevy....4qts. +2 for filter
5.0 Ford.......4qts. +1 for filter
5.7 Chevy....4qts. +1 for filter
7.4 Chevy....4qts. +1 for filter
7.3 Ford.......14qts. +2 for filter (can you tell me why?)
2.5 DC..........4qts +1 for filter
4.0 DC..........4qts +1 for filter
3.4 Yamaha..5.4 +1 for filter
And that's just whats in my driveway. What small block Chevy gas engines exactly come stock with a 6 or 7 qt. oil pan?
You don't have to prove anything, you already have. Just let it lie and just start absorbing some damn info. You can't learn anything untill you shut the hell up.
pvt, this has been going for some time, do a search and you'll see 'em all, and this by far is nothing close to a flame war, I haven't gotten past peeved yet. I'm just trying to educate a sapling before he blows something up, or shephers someone to blowing something up. On a side note, of course only on the internet, where else exactly do flame wars propagate? That's why this is fun!
Well I may not have put off the greatest impression, but I am smart enough and capable enough to work in a shop 35 hours a week while still going to HS. The shop I partly own is in Pennsylvania where the rest of my family is, and I live in Georgia, don't think I need to explain anymore. And I don't partake in owning it souly through blood, my grandpa and dad have seen what I can do and don't have any complaints.
Ede, I don't want to carry this on, I really have no idea why you bring it up, it's called "trolling", you're a moderator, you should be PREVENTING and STOPPING people from participating in such things. Other then that, call it even?

No actually you didn't. Probalby b/c you took that joke the wrong way, and then some.My bet is ede says yes. At least until you answer w/o knowledge again. My advice was sincere, if a bit course.
This is what I like to hear, but mind, I still think you owe a few people that apology, but this certainly is the step in the right direction that I personally was hoping for. Just remember that some of us have been wrenching since before we were sixteen and that was a long long time ago for some on this board. Get what I'm saying?
I've been wrenching way before 16, I was in the Jr. Drag racing league the instant I turned 8. I could weld by age 9. I could build a motor by about age 10. I just never got around to practicing diagnosing problems........
And I already have apologized to those who seemed deserving, not those who fueled the fire.

And like your answer, you should really check the attitude a little better before you start calling members idiots... It may work OK in highschool, but some day you may graduate and find that us adults get rather tired of it. If you didn't know the answer, don't post that you do!

Rebel, let me give you a hint about life and attitude:
There's people on this board that have been wrenching for a living in some cases, or building cars as a hobby in others, since before your daddy was even a gleam in his daddy's eye. One thing you will find as you grow older (assuming the Lord grants you the continued oppoortunity to do so) is that as every single day goes by, you'll have an opportuinty to learn things. You know more today about this stuff than you did at the same time last year, I would assume; is there any reason to assume that you've reached some pinnacle of perfection as of right now, and the process has ceased? So what makes you think it has stopped for all the rest of us? Think about what you've learned in the last year, or 2 years, or 6 years; think about how much more you can learn in the next 2, or 6, or 25, or 40 years; then think about how much somebody that's been doing this for that length of time might know that you haven't even glimpsed the possibility of just yet. Every day, you get a little more experience, a little more wisdom, and (hopefully) a little more humility; because you will realize as you come to have more and more knowledge, that there's still more to be learned.
So sonny boy, learn to be a little less cocky and argumentative, especially when you're wrong. You only succeed in making a fool out of yourself, like you have done such a great job of in this post. Let me also tell you something about business: if I had to ask somebody how much oil my car held, and they were as bad wrong as you were, I guarantee you I'd never take it to them to get any work done. And both you and the actual owner of the shop you work for would starve a little bit more, because you drove off a paying customer by demonstrating a lack of knowledge and unwillingness to learn and accept correction. I can already tell, I won't hire you for any position I have open, especially not positions that involve interacting with customers. You'll run them all off.
