Cost for a total motor build
How much for reasonable 383 build. I want to make about 400hp and about 450 torque. I also was wondering if you could build a decent motor for dirt cheap. I'm just curious about chevy secrets and such( like corvette heads or something...)

Depends on how much you want to get done to the engine. When I blew up my 383 last fall I needed a new engine for the race car. Since I needed to start from scratch, I went with a big block since the cost of building one isn't much more than a small block. I was guessing it would cost about $5000. After every nut and bolt was totaled up and every gasket and drop of oil was added, my engine cost $8000.
My 383 was a dirt cheap engine. Stock bottom end, cast pistons, stuff like that. Some good head work, a good cam, intake, carb and converter is all it took to put me in the 11's. Specs for the 383 are still on my page.
