looking at a 1986 Sport Coupe

There is a Dark Gray Camaro for sale locally, it has a red interior, the rear wheel wells are rusting and the left rear 1/4 panel is slightly rusting too. It has American Racing wheels(not Torque Thrust), 85 mph speedo. There are ashes in the ash tray(ash tray door broken off)and seemed to be owned by a female. I am not sure but it also looked lowered buy an inch or so. I got the VIN is this is what is comes out to be....
Carline Series: Sport Coupe, Z28
Engine Code: 305 ci V8 LG4 (1985-1986)
Model Year 1986
Assembly Plant: Norwood
Isn't that the good plant with the good paint?
My dad saw a sign that said $1800 on it but it had fallen down or something so he seems to think that they guy is going to reduce, i dunno, $1800 seems alot, the interior is not great but i would replace it anyway with a gray one. What do you think? oh yeah,
I think the speedo said 76,xxx miles but i could not see that first digit it probably is 176,xxx.

no opinions? not one.... I was thinking if could get it cheap enough just to get it looking right by changing the interior and re paint it. Then using the two years i have, build up a 350 TPI system and install a T-56 with 4th gen rear end. I could get a wrecked 4th gen, sell the LT-1 for...oh 1000 and part out the rest and make another 400-500. Good idea or no?

Seems a little pricy for an 86 with a lg4. I got my firebird for $2000 with a fresh (8000 mi) ZZ4 crate! and a shot tranny. It just PO the guy I bought it off of and he needed to make payments on his other pontiac (grand prix)

It needed ALOT of work, mostly interior but it was never driven in the snow and painted on average every 2 years of its life! (6 paint jobs!!!!) so rust was never a problem... getting all that paint off was!

All in all I think you can find a much better deal if you look. Try for a TPI car if you want power. Any if your after a fuel friendlier car, a 3.1 litre will do a much better job and is about the same speed as an lg4, would be in much better shape, and cost in the same ballpark.

Just some input.... Rust is hard ($$$) to fix correctly.

A 3.1 litre is not faster than a 305 lg4.

just to compare prices, i spent 900 on my 86 lg4 camaro. it had a great interior. the only thing lacking was paint. it was rusting all over the place. took about 4 months of sanding, but she looks reasonable now. i would try to talk her down to the 1200-1500 neighborhood.

good luck
