How to tell its a 383
How to tell its a 383
Hi all, i was at the shop the other day. Some guy asked if if i had a 383. I told him its a 350 as far as i can tell. He told me he builds lots of 350's, and non of them sound like that. It has a lumpy idle, deep sound, burns gas like its p*ssin it if it step on it. And has burned through 3 replacement trannys (4 total). Each one stronger then the first.
Any other way i can tell? i dont mind pulling the engine partly apart....

the only way to tell: crankshaft. a 383 stroke is 3.75" as opposed to the 3.48" of a 350 crank. Other than that, there really is no way.
