Tach Jumpy, Ignition cuts, Sometimes dies, WTF?
Occasionally, when accelerating through the rpm's, my tach will jump around and the ignition seems to be cutting out intermittently. Sometimes it will completely die. If I wait a few seconds it will start right back up. It happens especially if I hold 3000-4000 rpm under light load. I replaced the module with no change. It started happening after changing intake manifolds. I did not bolt the coil to the manifold like it was originally because the bracket didn't fit. So it is just sitting on the manifold until I modify the bracket. I've checked the schematic and the coil does not get ground through this bracket. Any suggestions. It happened the most on a trip to Florida and back last week. It didn't like sitting at 2600-3000 rpm when cruising a 95-100 mph for extended periods of time. It also does it on on-ramps between 3500-4000 rpm holding it there to find a break in traffic. When it cuts out, the tach goes to zero even if the motor is at 2000 rpm.

Letting the coil rattle around on top of the manifold will quickly kill it. Coils and vibrations don't mix.
Otherwise, it sounds like the mag pickup inside the distributor is on it's way out. Get a scan tool on it and it should be pretty obvious.

My 92 R/S acted a little like that after I set the timing up. Didn't die though. It turned out to be the connector you disconnect to set the timeing. don't remember the name of it but it by the A.C. stuff. It wasn't quite plugged topether well.

I am going to mount the bracket tonight. Hopefully that will fix it. Can the mag pick-up be replaced or should I just get another distributor from the junk yard? Should I replace the coil? I checked the timing and it is fine. I also do not use that timing lock wire with the Haltech DFI so I'm sure that's not the problem. Thanks for all of your help.
