knock knock wat's dat noize?

Okay techies and pros. It's me the lost recaro owner with a little more frustrationa and bigger problem then before. I finally got the system to accept my new cam and rebuild and worked the bugs out of the crossfire FI. I've ran it fine for a month or two and it performs okay..(presently held back by homemade exhaust) (not my work) but ill replace soon. any ways heres the deal.

The 305 has performed well, strong second gear scratch with a th700r and hard running strong .30 over 10:1 crane cam with a mild yet throaty lift. BUT NOW IT BREAKS AGAIN>>>>>>>
why? the darn motor has a terrible knocking from what seems to be the torque convertor area. I used the ole broomstick stethoscope trick and hear the motor at just about every angle running smooth as silk. ive inspected the convertor and plate, no appearant damage or loose parts.. the knocking seems to disapate at higher rpm's. this has me baffled and ive really considered whether or not the actual convertor itself can break inside or what? I really cant see it being the rear main?
I discovered the problem when i was 70 miles from home and was forced to drive it home. Never got worse or better but definatley was there. Oil pressure and power never decreased at all either. It baffles me.. So shoot away and make me feel dumb by pointing out some silly little thing i cant seem to find.???? could it be the flywheel? or whatever the automatic tranny version of the starter plate is called, i bought the one on it in feb when i dropped the motor??

Or it could sell if the price is right.

i have two grand in the motor and tranny>.......could be one of you would love an 83 recaro t/a. heres ths vin to check it out it comes with leather recaro buckets, not recovered but functional gold original wheels and all wheel disc brakes, has t-tops and is black, w/ rebuilt 305, swap out. unfortunately the numbers wont match the motor/car/ old motor was trashed, line bore would save it from the scrap yard. Any way i also have an 85 that was wrecked (firebird) has a strong tranny and v-6 with app 40,000 on it it was a remanufactured motor. i would part with the two of them for 3500.00 or 1500 and a swap car or truck that runs good? they say the only made 2600 in 83? How many are left?

i have sunk three grand into the recaro alone, could be worth a whole lot more then that, i bought from an estate of a collector in trans ams. e-mail me and ill give you everything i know about the cars.

First, you should never post you VIN, edit your post and remove it.

If you suspect a bearing, have the oil tested before pulling the pan.

You sure it's not an exhaust leak?
