Timing set Question

I am building up a new engine. The block is from a '92 truck, 5.7L.
It was not roller, so doing the roller retrofit for the lifters and everything. My question is do I use the timing set for the roller engines, or a standard older 350 set.

If you're using a "retrofit" cam & lifters, use the old style timing set.

A 1992 block SHOULD be roller. Even if it did not have a roller cam, does it have the bosses for the spider in the lifter valley? If you, you can use the stock roller cam setup.

Not necissarily. Yes, the 87-up blocks were machined for the factory roller setups. However, only the passenger vehicles got the roller cams in 87. Trucks did not receive the actual roller cams until later, i believe. So he may have provisions for the roller hardware, but that does not mean it was so equiped from the factory.

Rb is correct, if the cam is of the retrofit style, you have the timing sets that are for engines not equiped with factory roller cams.

The TBI engines found in trucks were non roller. They didn't go true roller till the vortec came out in 96.

Yep, I have a 91 one-piece seal 5.7 out of a TBI truck in my 66 truck and it was not roller nor does it have the bosses at all, or the places for the cam retaining plate.<--?? It is a 5.7 liter 10054727 "made in canada" block.
