How much horsepower will a 3" by 15" open air cleaner on a 4bbl. carb give me??

87,

That's a pretty loaded question. A lot depends on what mods you've already done, and just how much restriction the current air cleaner assembly presents.

If you have a single small snorkel air cleaner, an open element will probably gain you some performance. If you have a dual snorkel air cleaner, the gains may not be evident, and teh warmer air drawn from directly over the engine may cost you a little aid density and fuel charge. A dual snorkel with intake ducts seems to be a good setup for a 4BBL.

I'm with Vader on this one. I bought a dual snorkel that had been partially gutted, so I finished the job; no thermacs, no backfire ring, no inner deflectors, just the bowl plus K&N. Then I put my turbo bulge aircleaner lid on the dual snorkel, took the door out of the hood's airbox, so now I have three sizeable cold air inlets. Gained just shy of a 1/2 second out of all that. Dual snorkels work for carb motors.
