Need help with the emergency brake.

I'm in the middle of tightning my E-Brake and i can't figure out which way to turn the nut on the adjusting screw. I have Drum Brakes on my '86 Camaro. I think i tightened it too much, ...

It's an Automatic.. would the car being in park affect the rear wheels?

You tighten the nut in the direction that makes it screw farther onto the rod, so that it pulls the half-moon shaped thing oward the front of the car.

If you over-tighten it, your rear brakes will drag, and will burn up. Set it so that after you adjust the rear brakes up as high as they'll go and you can still get the drums back on, the parking brake (it's not an emergency brake) handle will pull up about 3 clicks.

They used to call them emergency brakes when they were considered a backup to the hydraulic system, which was failure prone in its early days. However, if you are in a genuine emergency and try to stop yourself with that thing, you'll probably hit something. All they're good for is holding the car when it's parked.
