What should I look for when buying this car?
I am going tomorrow morning to look at an 85 Corvette. It is an automatic with a 350 MPFI engine with 148,000 on it. Are there any specific problems unique to this year 'vette? I know that this probably doesn't belong here, but I don't know where to post it. I also know that this isn't a third gen question, but I have an 84 z-28 and I believe that this is the best tech board on the net and would appreciate any input you guys could give.
Boz,
Look for anything that you normally would on a car with 150,000 miles. Transmission oil burned or letting go, water pump, brakes, loose steering and suspension, alternator, CV joints on the rear half axles, scan for error codes, listen for valve noise and timing chain slap, check oil pressure, power steering and brake booster, check sagging doors, AC operation, working lights/headlight motors (grounds are a PITA on plastic-bodied cars), examine the floor pan and frame rails for corrosion, look for uneven tire wear, inspect the body for apparent repairs from damage, check the engine serial number against the VIN.
Also look at the rear spring, especially near the link mountings.
Plan on a four-wheel alignment if you get it.
