General Emissions Question
General Emissions Question
My emissions report is as follows:
Acceptable Actual Result
NOx 1006 2494 FAIL
HC 132 164 FAIL
CO% .73 .4 PASS
CO2% 13.6 N/A
02% .9 N/A
Is it true that NOx is specific to the catalytic converter non functioning? What about HC? My choices are either the oxygen sensor is bad, or the cat... the car is running pretty well and is timed correctly and has had a fresh tune up.
Thanks,
Matt

NOx is also controlled by your EGR system, make sure it is operating correctly, and the passages are not completely clogged up. It may also be the cat, but I know a friend of mine had trouble with only NOx, and it turned out being his EGR system.
