bent pushrods( please help)

I got a friend with a 79 camaro 350 bored 40 over aftermarket everyithng and just had all this done in december. Today it had a knocking noise so he took off the valve cover off and 2 of the rockers where not on the springs. Then we took the push rods out and 1 was went extremely bad and the other was just kinda bent. Does anyone know if it is just because the rockers slipped off or is there something more major.

Has he been winding the engine up to really high revs? What kind of rockers/springs does it have?

I broke a pushrod in two places last June because of that same reason. I forgot to tighten the poli lock on the rocker arm and rocker came unseated and caused the pushrod to break. I replaced both pushrods for that cylinder, adjusted valve lash again and made sure everything was tight. It's been fine since.
