Vader, Anyone, SES light...
Vader, Anyone, SES light...
I converted to a standard non-computer carb & distributor to my 1984 LG4 (yeah) Firebird. I have also added a Painless Wiring TCC kit to lock the converter up in 4th. So all is good except for a niggling issue, I can't get rid of the SES light. Of course, having no ECM will do that everytime. But for me to get thru emissions it has to be off, except for when they do the key on momentary check.
I could wire a bulb in with the oil light circuit to get past that, but there has got to be a way to isolate the SES wire from the ECM harness and use it some how. Any ideas?
If not, Vader might get my 'Bird after all.

GhoSSt,
Now you've got me confused. No ECM, but still getting the dreaded "SES" lamp. The lamp is supposed to get power from the ignition circuits and be grounded by an ECM output. If you didn't connect the negative wire to something, the light shouldn't even be on.
Ed has a good idea - if you want to fake out the inspectors, wiring it to an "idiot light" type pressure sensor in the oil gallery would work - if you have another opening for the sensor. There should be an opening for the "old" sensor location at the rear ledge alongside the distributor area, and probably one near the filter adapter.
If that doesn't cut it for you, you could install a vacuum controlled switch to do a similar thing. Getting to the wire in teh old ECM harness will no doubt be fun.
