fuel pump/fuel cell question
My fuel pump quit workin on me for some reason today. Does anyone know what connections I should check to make sure it's not a circuit problem first? Also if I find that the fuel pump is faulty I want to take out the gas tank and install a fuel cell and an inline pump with all new lines. Has anyone done this? If you have could you give me a discription of the size fuel cell you used and maybe send some pics...Thanks Jake
You can check the voltage to the pump right outside the tank. There is a three terminal connector at the top of the tank about in the middle with a...umm..I think it's grey, black, and purple wires. Unplug it and make sure one of them ( I think it's the grey) has a 12v supply when it should.
as to your other question, I havn't really seen a clean cell installation in a thirdgen trunk, that deep/narrow well just doesn't lend itself to one and building a legal firewall in a thirdgen backseat is problematic. Alot of mods to the trunk floor would be requirered. What I did was weld on a steel 3/4" NPT bung at the lowest point of the stock tank. You can also bolt a -8 or -10 AN fuel cell fitting to the stock tank, and run lines to an external -pump from there.
Also, I'm moving this to general where it should get more traffic.

Yeah... sense our cars are hatchbacks and don't have trunks theres no easy and safe way of doing it. NHRA rules state that you need a rear firewall when you install a fuel cell. I've seen quite a few f-bodies at car shows and such with fuel cells WITHOUT firewalls and I wonder how stupid people can get. I wouldnt wanna be driving around in a car with the gas tank inside the car with me

You can supply 12 volts to the G terminal in the ALDL and then go test as Jester mentioned, but most of the time once you supply the power , you'll hear the pump unless the pump is toast. I't is more common that the relay goes rather than the pump, but it most certainly is not unheard of.
I've seen one nice installation and they cut out everything in the rear to 1. tub it, and 2. put in a swinging firewall and pit for the fuel cell. The cell was totally enclosed and didn't look too bad. I don't think I'd recommend either for a street driven vehicle.
