Good Price on LT1?
found an LT1 that is local to me on ebay, just up the freeway so ive been watching it. She is currently sitting at $600. its out of a 95 camaro, says complete an running not sure of the miles i will have to call/email the guy and find out. Depending on miles, is this a pretty good deal for an obviously used LT1? its kind of dusty/dirty, but nothing looks banged up or damaged. The guy said he was using it for a project car, but went TPI instead.

so far thats a good price.. now are you sure its the 5.7 LT1 and not the "baby" LT1? If that includes all wiring and everything I'd say go talk to the guy in person and if everything checks out offer him cash right on the spot instead of waiting for someone to outbid you.

Remember to give it a real good lookover.. sorry if some of this seems obvious.. look for signs of poor maintence (for example if you can wipe burnt oil film off of a rocker by sticking your finger in the oil hole) While your at it I would do every diagnostic I could think of.. static compression test, running compression test, cylinder leakdown test, you know the basic things ya check for when buyin a used engine.. verify all casting numbers (block, heads, anything else relevent).. since its still in running shape also if possible pressure test the coolant system.. defently check oil pressure with a known good gauge, and one last thing, when you pull the dipstick out feel the consistancy between your fingers.. if it feels abnormally thick its probably gear lube someone is using to cover up a problem, for example a spun bearing, or a knocking rod, etc. Also metal flakes in the oil would defently change my mind

The 'baby LT1" was called L99 and came in Caprices (maybe more), it was a 4.3L V-8 instead of the 5.7L V-8 we all love. It looks just like the LT1.

The 4.3L never came in a 4th gen camaro. If it has aluminum heads (all F-body LT1's had aluminum heads) it's no 4.3l. Good find for $600 I think. Those heads alone fetch $200-$250 used.
