voltage guage

I think my guage is being poopy.. keeps jumping around like crazy and I can't figure out why. I've checked everything but the guage. With that said...

Where is the sending unit for the voltage guage? Is it the battery? Heh or the alternator.. Or is there actually a seperate unit?
