Trans Am Coolant Sensor?
My 83 Trans Am has a surging problem where it would feel like it was flooding when I press down on the gas pedal and then the engine would just stall and die. Funny thing is, it would start right up after I let it sit for a couple of minutes and it would run fine until it starts warming up again and the Check Engine Light comes on and it starts surging and dies.
Took it to the shop today for a diagnostic and I was told that my coolant sensor was bad.
Sound about right?

You should have performed a search of the archives (for free) and saved a few bucks and the time it took to have you car diagnosed. Reading error codes is as easy as buckling your seat belt.
A failed temperature sensor can force the ECM into Backup fuel and spark mode, causing poor operation. A carbureted engine is a little less susceptible to poor operation in this mode, IF it is adjusted correctly. Many aren't.
Scan for error codes, then correct whatever problems you find. The sensor may have failed, or may somple be disconnected. You may also find other indications of problems. Did the technicians tell you what codes were found?

I actually tried pulling the codes myself with my trusty paper clip but it just kept throwing 12 and after a few seconds had smoke coming from the dash and I wasn't sure if something was shorting out so instead of risking it, I decided to just take it to the shop for a full scan.
The tech left me a message on my machine last night that he got two codes from the diagnostic and implied that the coolant temp sensor was bad..I won't be able to get details till Monday but I'll keep ya posted.
