Near constant knock counts

Near constant knock counts

I just put in a new motor(new to me, 175k L05 /w new rings&berings) and am experiencing crazy amounts of knock counts. If I cruise down the road at a constant speed i will register on average 1 knock count every couple seconds with around 2-3deg of retard when this occurs. WOT shows several(~50 in a 5-60 blast) counts also, and instantly shows 10deg of retard. If I am coasting down and I suddenly blip the throttle it will register 2-3 counts. This last observance throws a curve, I got a code 43 once at idle, leading me to believe that this is a sensor/wiring problem and not actual knock. The motor is sound, no shortblock knock and a quiet valvetrain. The knock sensor has 2 wraps of teflon tape and is torqued to 12ftlbs. A bad ground may cause a voltage drop which would retard timing but would it cause it to register a knock count also? The car is an 89 Formula converted to SD.

When you converted to SD did you change the Knock Sensor to suit? Did you also jumper the EST module?

And one other thing, did you change the PROM as the SD cars have the actual knock sensor circuitry on the PROM.

Um hang on is your car TPI?

730 SD ECM on stock TPI. I am running a 3.9k 350 knock sensor and have the EST jumpered. I am also running a V8 730 memcal. Does anyone know where the ground wire that the knock sensor uses is located?
