No start

I just replaced the starter/solenoid in my Camaro. Now, I have a no start condition. The starter enable realy clicks, but the starter does not engage. I have 12.4 volts at the battry and 13.1 volts at the starter enable realy when the key is turned to start. Where do I need to look next? Oh, the car WILL start with a jump!
Thanks

How much voltage do you have at the purple wire, where it coonects to the starter solenoid?

Brand new starter/solenoid. Even switched it out for a known good starter/solenoid, but still have the same problem. What has me stumped, is the car will start with a jump, but not without one.

Bad starter/solenoid

Doesn't matter if it's brand new or 40 years old

The starter/solenoid is not working

Not working == bad

Okie dokie, I'll replace that starter again. Hope that's the problem though, because it would not start with a known good starter/solenoid.

If it has 12.2 volts at the solenoid terminal (you're sure you've got it on the "S" terminal, not the "R" terminal, if your starter has both) and the solenoid doesn't pull in, then it can't very well be the fault of anything but the solenoid. It's just an electromagnet. This isn't rocket science, it's just car electricity, after all.

"The simplest explanation the fits all the facts is usually the right one".
—Occam, ancient Greek philosopher, from when cars had 6 volt positive ground electrical systems

And I might add, it's usually the right one, even if it's unpopular.
