The problem I am having is that there is hesitation upon acceleration. I have the timing set at 13* advanced. Still hesitates, and loping idle. I've tried setting the minimum idle air intake and idle speed. One thing that is strange to me is that there is absolutely no pinging with the timing that far advanced. How far advanced can or should the timing be advanced. How much is too much? 88 TBI IROC, 305 electronics, custom chip, 383 stroker, 350 injectors.

Get some 8mm wires for like $50 from a local car parts store and if that doesn't fix it then you might want to check your spark plugs. It's a good idea to do that anyways. If the plugs are wet black then you are definatly not getting good enough spark. Let me know if the wires change works for you.

I put some Taylor 8mm wires and an Accel Cap and rotor on. BUT the plugs after maybe 3-4 weeks are black. When I saw that the plugs were black after that short a period of time, and on a newly built engine, I started thinking about inadequate spark getting there. Tell me if I am wrong here. My understanding of the ignition coil is that voltage is sent through the coil wire to the distributor cap, to the rotor and as the rotor turns voltage is sent to the terminals on the inside of the cap, then through the plug wires and finally into the cylinder to ignite the gas. If this is right, my questions are: what powers the coil? And what is the purpose of the distributor module? As far as I know the stock coil is on there and if so, has over 118,000 miles on it. The distributor itself is new.
Normally the coil just dies on you, it isn't a gradual thing. It is a good idea to replace the coil with an MSD one since you replaced the rest of your ignition. That in itself could help out a lot.
Actually, the 12 volt electricity flowing through your car from the alternator(or battery) is send to the ignition coil, then to the distributor. The ignition module controls the flow of power to the rest of the ignition system, it turns the power on and off.
