they're steel bars that connect parts of the frame together to make a stiffer ride.. I don't have them yet.. but I think they make it handle better? go to um.. edelbrock.com .. I think they have some pictures.. they're not pictures for our cars.. but they're still pictures

They connect the part of the body that the rear end attaches to, to the "frame" such as it is that the engine and trans attach to. Without them the only thing connecting those parts is the body. Their purpose is to make the whole body more rigid.
There are several different designs of them; I happen to have ones that weld to the rear LCA attachment brackets, run all the way along the floor pan to a point directly below the firewall with welds every few inches, and then have a short section that goes over to the "frame" in front of the trans mount.
They tightened up the whole body of the car an amazing amount. They're strong enough to jack up the side of the car under the door. The car doesn't ride any rougher, it's just that now you can't feel the whole body of the car wobbling around every time it goes over a bump. The car feels more solid. Plus they resist the twisting force that hard launches produce (not that I would ever launch the car hard or anything!!)

RB is correct, but it should be noted that F41 cars won't "ride like you're sitting on a board" To quote Dirk.
F41 cars will notice much better handling, and less flex on curbs and such.
FE1 and FE2 equipped cars WILL notice the stiffness and handling effects to a more pronounced level.
If you don't know, F41 suspension equipped cars are typically RS's, SC's, and Convertables.
FE1 and FE2 cars are typically the IROC's, T/A's, GTA's, and Z28's.

I had SFC's installed on my 1992 Z28 when I owned it and the diferrence was amazing. My buddy's house I would visit often, has a steep driveway and I would feel the car flex every time I went up the driveway. After the SFC's were welded on, no feel of flex, sound of cracks or creaks. They are a well worth upgrade.

Here's a pic of my Alston SFC's. They're the two large black bars on either side of the driveshaft and torque arm.
