charcoal canister.. do I need it ?

soon I'm replacing my LG4 with a 355 , the donor car that had the 355 doesn't have the charcoal canister anymore, should I keep mine or also throw it away ?

I would like to get rid of it , but if it's somewhat important then I'll leave it alone

Doesn't cost any power but does keep the gas tank vented to the engine as opposed to a vented gas cap that vents to the atmosphere.

If the hose is plugged you'll get a serious pressure build up in the gas tank that will show itself when you remove the gas cap. Been there; done that.

Could cause tank to begin leaking.

Wait, hold on a sec. That pressure release from the gas cap is perfectly normal .... on TPI cars anyway!

Yes, there is a certain amount of pressure build up on the tank. The purge canister helps control the level and also keeps the gas vapors from escaping unabated into the atmosphere by using activeated carbon IIRC.

I think what Jake is suggesting is that by eliminating the purge canister, you risk an EXCESS pressure build up beyond the normal build up.
