Help

Last weekend, I took the heads off my 305 to get cleaned and to get new valves put in. Now when I put them back on car do i leave the pistons where they were positioned or do I turn it so that the piston is at #1 cylinder.

Doesn't matter where the pistons are when you put the heads back on.

It will matter however when you get to the point of adjusting the valves and dropping in the distributor.

You need to know more than just #1 at TDC; there are 2 instances of #1 TDC in a complete engine cycle, only one of which is #1 firing. If you merely put the #1 piston at TDC without looking at where the cam is, you have exactly a 50% chance that the engine is at #1 firing.

Looking from the front of the car in, does the cam turn clockwise or counterclockwise? Always wanted to know...

You took the heads off without knowing what would be required to put it back together? Get a shop manual.

I don't suppose you have a torque wrench.

(Why was this on the Engine Swap forum?)

Wow that was intelligent calling a moderator an *******. Really is a dumb question for someone to ask considering your obvious belief in your knowledge.

z28stroker,

Watch what you say. If you ever speak that way again to any of our Mods or Members, you'll be asking your tech questions somewhere other than ThirdGen.Org, guaranteed. You're On Probation.

BTW:
It might benefit you to take a few minutes to read the TGO Board Rules.
