dyingout
simple question, ive searched a bit and i think this may be the MAF relay doing this... or possibly the maf itself, im just looking for other opinions... its just that when i start my car, i have to romp on the gas quickly in order to get it going, only for a couple seconds, then it will idle normally, but if i just start it and dont touch the gas it dies within a couple seconds. this is a L98 tpi btw, so its fuel injected and all, so i kinda dont think i should have to be doing this.
While it is possible that you have a MAF problem, it isn't likely unless you are also getting a MAF error code. The ECM is very intolerant of MAF errors, and will lock in a code within 600mS if there is a MAF signal out of the acceptable range.
Also, the ECM basically ignores the MAF until the engine is running at over 450 RPM. If you have to feather the throttle to get/keep it running, and have no MAF error codes, I'd suspect a throttle body or IAC problem, or possibly a TPS issue.

thanks alot for the response vader... after you said that I did some searching on how to clean the iac and adjust it and all that stuff. So i pulled it out to clean it, and it appears to be stuck open. how far out should the spring and pintle be? I read soemthing (i beleive you said) about plugging it back in when it is out of the TB and turning the car "on" so that it will extend itself... well mine does nothing, but it appears that it is already extended, and nothing i do will make it shrink down (as i am to understand its supposed to do)... so im assuming i need a new one, would i be correct? thanks alot
