On the engine swap that is going into my car this weekend, what do I torque the 305 heads to and what do I torque the rockers to?

Do a 2 step torque to 65 ft. lbs. Thats what my old chiltons says, and thats what we always torque em too.

you dont torque the rockers. set the valve lash to 0 + 1/2-3/4 turn.

as far as torquing the heads, it was said above.

You cant tourque rocker arms like head bolts, you have to "adjust" them. This is a good skill for everyone to learn how to do, I just learned it and think it would make a good tech article for the board here. I found this method in a car magazine, it works for almost any car. Do this with your valve covers off: Make sure you know the difference between the exhaust valve and the intake valve. The easiest way is to see which valves line up with an exhaust manifold port, these are your exhaust valves. Start with no 1 cylinder on the drivers side front exhaust valve. Put all your pushrods in and get all your rocker arms on and tightened enough to remove play. Crank the engine one click at a time with the key or a similar method and watch where the valve meets the rocker arm. You want to click it till the exhaust valve just starts to move down (opens) approx 1/3 of the way. With it in this position the intake lobe is on its base circle, this is when you can set the intake rocker. You the loosen the intake rocker nut untill you can roll the pushrod back and forth between your fingers. Then slowly tighten the nut untill you start to feel a little resistance / a slight tug to rolling the pushrod. Try and wiggle the rocker back and forth a little to make sure it is seated and you still feel the tug when you roll the pushrod. You may need to practice this till you are familiar with what this "zero clearance" feels like. Most of you will have hydrolic lifters so you want to tighten the intake rocker nut another 1/2 turn at this point. This is the procedure to set all intake valves. Move on to set the exhaust valves now. Watch the intake valve and rocker for this. Bump the engine over till the intake valve is finished opening and starts to close. The intake valve should be approx 1/2 of the way closed (this is where the valve moves back up). At this point you can loosen the exhaust valve rocker nut ans roll the pushrod while tightening the nut. Get it to the "zero clearance" the beginning of resistance. Make sure the rocker is seated. Then go 1/2 a turn more to tighten it. Do them in pairs and be carefull not to miss one. If you do them correctly your engine should run smooth and quiet, no noises or clatter should come from the valves.
NOTE: (solid lifters require a different method with a feeler gauge to set the manufacturers recomended lash).
Please let me know if i left anything out or if anything seems wrong. It worked great for me. I am just "relaying" the magazine article here in my own words so as not to plagerize it.
