Steering Column cover??
Steering Column cover??
O-kay, Some punk stole my car the other night and hit a telephole pole with it. Then he ran off. In the morning before I even knew my car was gone, the cops come knockin on my door and asking why my car was on the side of the road. Anyway, my questions are... How do I get all of the wires out through the turn signal canceling cam. How do I get the new Steering column cover over the the turn signal thing. And finally, how do I seperate the multi-function lever from the switch?? Oh yea, does any one know where I can get a detailed picture of re-assambly. I got all the parts I needed from the salvage yard, but I cut the all the wires with cutters and I dont want to cut my wires.
thank you.
thank you.

Take the whole coulmn out of the car to work on it. One bolt under the hood about even with the master cylinder, 3 sheet metal screws in the firewall at the base of the column that you get to from inside the car, and 4 small bolts under the dash is all it takes. Once you have it out it's easy to see what you have to do. The big plug for the turn signals will slide through the cover. The "multi-function switch" is held to the TS cam by one screw. All in all, not as horrible a job as it looks. You should be able to do the whole thing in less than 2 hours.

IROC,
You could remove the column by disconnecting the wiring connectors under the dash, removing the four nuts under column cradle, and this one in the engine compartment:
OR - you could repair the column without removing it using this as a guide:
