What kind of cam can I run safely with my Poncho 400?
What kind of cam can I run safely with my Poncho 400?
The engine is out of a 76 t/a. I have the heads out of a 72 that need rebuilt, and once thats all done I'm gonna use those. Is there anything I need to know about, cam-wise for this engine? I was thinking about a Lunati streetmaster cam with 275* adv duration and .477" lift.
Also, I'm looking at an Edelbrock performer intake manifold. Should I consider other brands? I've been told this is the way to go, but I'm not sure. Thanks

i like lunati cams and use then in most of the engines i do. i don't like edlebrock parts, i'd buy holley or weiand intake. if weiand makes the stealth intake for your application i think that's waht i'd run.

I would Go with the performer RPM air gap, Or the Victor Junior.

don't use smallblock chevy tactics on a pontiac, make sure you are getting parts designed for a pontiac. most of the aftermarket designs stuff for a smallblock and adapts them to each motor. I would work with Jim Butler Performance out of Tennessee. He is the premiere pontiac performance shop. What code are the heads? There is a BIG difference in pontiac heads. I bet you could make or lose up to 150 horsepower or more with the variation in head possibilities for a pontiac. Mainly because they use the same heads for a 326 all the way to a 455 so you could feasibly run any head on any motor but power will vary tremendously. the same goes for intakes and such. recent tests of intakes found the single plane intakes like the Torker II to be slightly superior than the dual planes. If you want anymore advice from me (for some odd reason), it'd be better to email me since I may not get a chance to check the boards again for a while. Butler advertises in both pontiac magazines and possibly some others I'm unaware of.
