Gain or Loss HP?

First ill start with my opinion: Gain
ok now here is what is being done over this weekend, im working on my 78 vette, its a 350/th350 it has an edelbrock 600, edelbrock performer intake, slightly ported 400 heads, stock exhaust manifolds, stock y pipe with a dent in it punched out converter and 2 dynomax mufflers. the thing that is being changed is the cam, it has a roller setup in it right now i just found out the specs of it. .509/.528 222/230, in my opinion this cam is WAY too big for this engine and its mods. so the cam i am putting in it, is equivalant to the performer plus cam: 420/442 204/214 i actually think the car will pick up alot of lower end power and some mid range. i want to know what everyone else thinks about this. oh and the roller setup is going in my camaro.

You should gain a little power down low, how much i don't know. The roller cam has faster opening ramps, and the stays open more for longer. So in the end they will probably be about the same. The cam you are putting in a very "lazy" cam with very slow opening ramps which will hurt power production. A much better choice would be the comp XE line, specifically the XE262 or XE256. This will give you much more low end power over either of those cams.

Watch out when running a flat-tappet cam with roller springs, it will wipe it out pretty quick. I'd suggest you replace the springs as well to the manufacture recommend springs.

The cam may loose some hp but youll probably be happier with the new cam. You should wind up with a flatter torque curve and a wider powerband.
