hot = hard start?

When my Z is at about 200deg. I turn the car off to go into the store or whatever. I come out and the starter is struggling to turn the enging over for about two/three cycles, then it starts. Sounds like it's gonna run outta juice??? kind of hard to explain..

My car is the exact opposite. Takes long to start cold, extremely fast to start hot. Search, there was a good thread on it not too long ago.

My starter sounds like there is a huge load on it after the car is hot? The way it turns the engine over while hot, the starter sounds like it's running out of amperage or power? Almost as if the battery is dying? My volts/amps are good?

Your stater or starter solenoid is getting cooked by your exhaust. This increases the resistance of the starter and requires more "juice" or amperage to make it spin. You need a starter heat shield, and maybe a new starter if it continues.

Also make sure that you have good electrical connections between your battery and starter. This will create more resistance in the electrical system, and not supply enough amperage to the starter.

hurry up and get a heat shield. I had the exact same symptoms and replaced the starter and now it is fine.

A remote solenoid can be used as well. I run one of those $5 ones that is used on Fords. Theres info in the tech article. Works for me and i have SLP shorties and the factory starter.

Skip all the heat shield and remote solenoid voodoo.

The problem is that your stock starter is inadequate. Get a better starter.

I struggled with that problem for years, with a 10.4:1 400. I finally bit off and put a CVR mini-starter in it about 5 or 6 years ago. Unbelievable the difference it made. That starter spun the 400 at least twice as fast as the weenie stock POS ever spun the 305. And what's even better, is that it spins that fast every time; hot, cold, when I leave it in an airport parking lot 100 miles from home and come back 2 weeks later and it's -4° outside, every time, period. It's wonderful not having to worry about that crap any more.
