Electric Fuel Pump question

Just one small question. We recently replaced the electric fuel pump in my son's 1989 Iroc. I notice that after shutting the car off I can still hear the pump running a few of seconds afterward. I never notice this before the old pump with bad. It this normal for the pump to keep running, even for just a few seconds after the engine is off?? And if not, what could be causing the pump to do this?

should run for 2 seconds with key on engine off, then 2 seconds when you shut the car off to retain fuel pressure for next startup
