Matt,

Do you mean cylinder compression?

I've checked mine at 145 PSI (average) and it was on a known good engine (new valves, tight holes). Something with a stock cam and the stock valve timing might even get higher numbers, but that is what a fresh LT1 does with a more aggressive Comp cam.

the big thing to look for is a differance of 10% or so between the numbers. i'd expect maybe a little higher but what you got isn't bad at all.

Partially open throttle causes partially filled cylinders during compression tests just like it does when the engine is running. It will make all your readings low by some unpredictable variable amount, and renders any results you get absolutely meaningless and useless.

Most engines with the compression and cams they are using these days will show about 165 or 175 on a compression gauge. The absolute number you see on the gauge is affected by a number of things so there's no "right" number.

Do the test right, then like ede said, look for consistency between cylinders.

A better indication would be a leakdown test.
