The difference between SBC and BBC ???
I need a little schooling concerning the difference between the SBC and BBC motors. I've read articles about 427 cu in. SBC's . My question is what determins the difference between the two ? I thought it was cubic inches. I understand about the stroked SBC's that gain cubic inches, but what are the determining factors that seperate the two ? I hope these are'nt lame questions but I just wanted to know. Thanks !

The engines are to completely different designs. Every part is different. Its kinda like the difference between a inline 6 and a v6. Meaning that they are just different engine. A BBC is a BBC and a SBC is a SBC. It doesn't matter what cubic inches they are, because with aftermarket SBC blocks people can build more then 454cid SBC engines.
I hope this helps. Also go search the internet for BBC and SBC and see what you find.

Thanks for the replys. I understand that they are different blocks.........but, was the big block actually made for heavier duty use, such as large trucks that needed the power capacity ? Or did Chevy just decide on a different engine design ? I understand that the SBC motor can also be designed for heavy-duty use. I was just wondering if anyone had a little bit of history concerning the comparison between the two or where to look for the history. I've seen and read the history of the 350 but cant find much on the big blocks. appreciate any direction or comments. Thanks !
Basically the larger block allowed for more cubes without sacrificing durability. And you can't just look at it as a block vs block thing. The biggest advantage to the BBC is the canted valve design of the heads with the large ports.
Can't find info on the BBC?????????????? Open your eyes man! It's not like it's hard to find. There an immensely popular engine...
