VATS/Passkey retrofit

I'd like to retrofit a passkey system into my 86 Firebird when I swap in my TPI motor... are there places to get parts, or is this something I can do at the pick-n-pull?

Well if you want to go the high expense route, you can get all the parts that you need from the dealership. This does not include the cost of labor either. If you are on the low end struggling between pay checks, go to the local pick-n-pull. The labor expended there is a learning experience and will be needed. Just be sure to get the key, lock cylinder, and VATS control module from the same car. Good luck!!

yeah... except I don't have a paycheck except for what I sell on eBay lately...

Where is the module located... say on any of the 100 million FWD GM marques out there... also, what years should I be looking for? Are they all pretty much programmed the same way?

And if worse comes to worse and I don't see any keys, how can I go about getting a key? I read somewhere that there's 15 different resistances...

The years that you want to look are mid to late 88's to 92 firebirds and camaro's. Usually you will find the key still left in the lock cylinder. The Vats control module is located under the defogger vents on the firewall under the dash to the right of the drivers right knee. You will also need the starter enable relay which is located behind the left kick panel and the wiring harness for it and the Vats control module. Plus you will need the computer chip for it also.

I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy. Hide a switch under the dash or something.
