Oil pressure switch

I need your advise on removing the oil pressure switch. I bought the socket from AZ for $6, but it is too deep. I keep hitting the side of the firewall and can't get the socket over the switch. Is there a better tool/method to remove the switch?

Thanks!

Where is the switch? Is it behind the distributor? If so, it's on a brass fitting, just turn that a little bit to re-orient the sending unit.

switch

is mounted just above the oil filter, on the side of the block. If I cut the socket, how will it reach the hex which is at the base of the switch? I tried to use a wrench, but there is not enough room to swing it around.

They make a socket just for those switches! Check with Napa, they cost about 16 bucks!

I used a channel locks, but my motor was out. Don't know how much room you have under there. It wasn't in very tight.

If you can weld, cut the drive side off the socket, so you have a hexagonal tube open on both ends, and weld a handle on somewhere convenient. I had to make such a tool to change my plugs after headers.

If you can't weld, try some of those vice grips with rubber jaw covers. Just be gentle. Anyone know how fragile the sensor body is?
