Weird code readout
I'm getting a weird code readout when I do the paper clip trick. The other day it worked fine. The last couple days I had an open vacuum line off my plenum, which is now fixed, and my car is running a lot better (its not wanting to cough and sputter at each stop). Anyways, a few times it gave me a check engine light, and when I checked for codes today it read out "12 12 12 44 44 44 12 12 12 44 44 44 12 12 12" etc. Now, I thought it should read like "12 44 12" to that effect. 44 is a lean O2 sensor, and I haven't changed the O2 sensor at all since I got the car and I'm sure its time to do so. I was just curious as to why the codes flashed out like this, and also what O2 sensor to get? I've heard stay away from Bosch? Can I get a different brand at the local Autozone or Murray's?

The codes flashing like that are normal. It will always start out flashing code 12. It will flash this code three times and then go to the next code which will also flash three times. After the last stored code has flashed three times, it will start the cycle all over again and continue to repeat itself until the codes are cleared. So, there is nothing wierd about this. As far as the brand name of the O2 sensor, I have used Bosch for a number of years with no problems. Other members on the board may have. It has been awhile since I have needed one so I can't say for certain what other brands they may have at AutoZone or Murray's other than Wells or GPSorenson.

Ugh I'm retarded. I just read these directions and got the codes the other day. I already knew this, lol! Gotta love feeling stupid after reading the first two lines of a response to your question.
Thanks though
Thanks for the word on the Bosch O2 sensors. I'll just pick up whatever they carry there.

IMHO, I usually have better luck with OEM replacement sensors. I.E. ACDelco.
I'm sure other people may argue this point, but in over half of the instances in my own GM's, the aftermarket sensors usually cause havoc, or just don't last.
Just my personal opinion.

Actually I figured that Bosch would be the stock replacement, but now that you mention it, I think you are right. I was just going to buy whatever they had listed as the cheapest, which more than likely would be Wells or AC-Delco. I like AC-Delco parts so far..
