What do you guys think of my cam choice?

I'm getting a new cam and think I have one. I just want to run it by you first.

I have an 87 LB9 IROC with 700R4 so my stock cam is not brilliant.

I spoke to Willie who has the same car and he is using a crane compucam 2032 p#104224. The specs are:

Lift (1.5 rockers)----452/465
Lift (1.6 rockers)----482/496
Dur @ 50--------------214/220
LSA----------------------------112

What do you think? I'm wanting a good power increase over the stock cam and a good idle. Willie tells me that the idle is a little rough at first but smooths out when it warms up.

Another suggwestion has been the compcams CS 264H-R12 Part# 08-302-8.

The specs are practically identical:

INTAKE EXHAUST
VALVE ADJUSTMENT HYD HYD
GROSS VALVE LIFT .480 .480
.006 TAPPET LIFT 264 274
VALVE TIMING OPEN CLOSE
AT .050 INT 3-BTDC 33 ABDC
EXH 46 BBDC 6-ATDC
THESE SPECS ARE FOR CAM INSTALLED
AT 108 INTAKE CENTER LINE
INTAKE EXHAUST
DURATION AT .050 210 220
LOBE LIFT .3200 .3200
LOBE SEPARATION 112

Also, i've been told to replace the lifters along with the cam, any suggestions?

Thanks for the help guys, I look forward to getting your advice.

forget the crane uchmm i use that word VERY lightly and get a good decent comp cam! they even have a tech dept. thats more than happy helping you to select the "perfect cam" for your setup. i did this and the resulkts were amazing... they were right on..dont mean to hack on crane..but, welll. they suck!! ive had 1 cam many lifters and 2 pushrods crumble go COMP cams you wont be dissapointed!!

Don, what was the idle like with that cam? Did you notice much of a difference in performance?

Of all the cams in this post, the Crane is the poorest choice IMHO. Still, it's a much better one than what's in there, and lots of people run it and like it.

For your stock valve train the Comp 264 is the best choice. It would definitely be worthwhile to change the valve springs at the same time, and lose the stamped sheet metal rockers. The Comp cast steel roller-tip ones in the 1.52 ratio would be the way to go.

The 210/220 cam had a nice idle to it.I wpouldn't call it lumpy though.
As for a performance increase over the stock cam,the springs for the WP heads were only good for about .500 lift, with less than 100 pounds of pressure, and I broke the tops of all the exhaust springs.Even with that,I ran a few 12.8-13.00 at 116 mph. Before the swap I ran a 12.4 at 109 mph,But the speed increased by 7 mph and I was falling on my face at 5000 RPM.I feel with the right springs I could have put it in the 11's.
Since I tore the heads down to be ported and have larger springs installed,I said what the Hell, pull the cam.
Which brings out more problems. At almost .580 lift I have the guides machined down for more clearance, and some other clearance issues,But I think 230/244 duration in a 305 is going to be a lumpy cam, which will be good for flowing that nitrous
