Simple skipping prob. quest.

can a vacuum leak cause car to skip?

My car skips at odd times, but don't believe it skips at WOT. Haven't gotten dirty in searching for problem yet...just curious if vacuum hoses being busted (I have some) could cause this .

SmithInc,

If by "skipping" you mean rough idle and missing, yes. A vacuum leak will cause a lean mixture on one or more cylinders. Lean operation can cause misfire, backfire, rough idle, unsteady and wandering idle speed, and a whole host of other problems.

Make sure the vacuum lines and hoses are intact and properly connected according to the VECI label under the hood. Also check the PCV valve and EGR valves - they are in essence "programmed" vacuum leaks that can cause similar problems if they are not operating correctly.
