Need help to identify this throttle cable

I just bought this 92 Formula this week. I have owned an 89 Formula, but it did not have the TPI engine. This is supposed to be the stock TPI 305 engine. I noticed the throttle cable was in bad shape and ordered a new one. When I got home and started to install it, I found out that it was different than the one on the car. I have looked at all the local part stores web sites, and they all list this one as the right one for a 92 305 TPI. So.... I need to find out what I actually have in the engine bay. Is this the right 305 with a different throttle body on it, or a different engine all together. The engine runs strong, so I am not concerned if it has been switched. I just need to know what I'm working with. Can anyone identify this type of throttle cable?

Thanks,

Pyro

The throttle cable is behind the cruise control cable.

That certainly looks like a stock throttle arm on the side of the throttle body. I don't think that's been messed with or exchanged for something else.

The bare cable that goes on the inside is the actual throttle cable. The one on the outside with the slider is the cruise control cable. The stud at the top takes the auto trans throttle valve (kickdown) cable.

There were at least two different designs for the throttle cable. One, like he has shown in the picture had a metal bar that slipped into a groove on the throttle lever. I believe this came into effect on the 89 models. The earlier designs fit on a post (stud) protruding from the throttle lever. When you go to a auto parts store to order the cable, you must specify the exact year and model. Even then they often times try to tell you that is the correct part when you know it isn't.

O.K.. Here is what I found out. Like Trickster stated, there were two cables made for this model. Most of your "local" parts stores are only going to carry the one that goes on similar to the kickdown cable. My car is a 5-speed, so it does not have the kickdown cable. I assume that this may also be the reason for the two different cables. The only place I could find the "other" cable is at a dealer. Unfortunately, they cannot tell me which one is which without a part number.

Is there anyone who has a set-up like mine that can give me the code or part number off of their cable. Mine is unreadable.

Thanks,

Pyro
