A/C 'off' but compressor still comes on

Hey guys, just recently I noticed that the A/C Compressor isn't really turning off when I set the HVAC controls to off. There is still cold air coming from the vents (without the blower) and I can feel the loss of power when the A/C compressor clicks on. I looked through my chiltons and they don't mention it, and I tried a search here but again no luck.

What should I check first?

Thanks in advance.

-Steven

For an interm solution, you can disconnect the plug on the compressor...I had a buddy who had the same thing happen, his problem was in the switch itself, only time the comp would shut off was when he selected "fan".

Have you tried other positions on the selector? Could be things are worn and need to be replaced/adjusted.

I remember a few months back I would have to go back to an A/C funtion then off again to get it to turn off. Could it possibly be a vacuume relate issue?

Thanks for that hint on disconnecting the compressor, thats a good idea.

I don'ton't think it's vacuum, but more in the switch assembley(least from what I dealt with).

if I go to vent the A/C turns off. I'll pull the whole HVAC thingy out later and see if I can see where the problem is.
