Cooling fan staying on after toggle switch installed?

I have a single fan on my 86 Trans Am 305 TPI. Well it wasn't coming on, meaning one of three things. Fan motor is out, relay bad, or tempature switch in the block. The first two were knocked out as being problems. So I assume it is the tempature switch between the 6 and 8 plugs. So I decided to bypass it and hook a manual fan switch up. I spliced into the green/white wire that runs into the relay as the + terminal, and then grounded the switch. This is how I did on my 88 GTA. Now with the car in the on position *(not running) the fan switches on and off like it should. With the car running the fan is constantly staying on? Did I splice the wrong wire for this setup? I guess it isn't the same as the 88?

Brian,
Why not simply fix the problem? Have a 92 RS that had the same problem. It was a bad fan switch and is located by the #6 and #8 spark plugs. I ordered a new one from Jegs.com (P/N 533-4026) and it worked like a champ. Before, I tried to order one from dealer, but our "po-dunk" town dealership here in Burk has very little knowledge about cars period. Nuff said. Of course, your dealer might employ those with an aptitude higher than your average ameba and can assist you with your problem. Cheers!
