if you have an MSD ign. box please read

Well, i finally got a working MSD 6A(first one didnt work, and had to send it back for another) box, and have it installed on my carbed 383. when i removed the module and capacitor from the distributor and put the two wire harness in its place, i figured there might be a problem keeping it away from the spinning rotor. well, i started the car and it ran fine, so i assumed(shouldnt have) that the wires had somehow kept themselves away from the rotor. I drove it a week or two, and on my way back to school, the car quit. I figured it was the wires in the distributor, and sure enough, the rotor had slowly eaten through them. now, i know i dont get any smart-guy points for this act i pulled.. but has anyone else installed a box on a vacuum advance distributor and had this same problem? the only solution i can come up with is to cut a small piece of aluminum(very thin, i got a piece from my grandfather who has extra sheet metal from when he built his plane) and screw it down on top of the wires using the hole that previously held the capacitor down. now, if that made any sense, then please share your solutions..

  • 74 Z28--slightly modded 383, TH400 tranny, not too quick but fun to drive

i used a screw and washer to hold mine down, no problems so far. use the hole that held the old module in.

The few that I have installed with the harness came with a loop and screw to hold down the wires. Maybe they didn't include them in your kit??
