Air Conditioning (brrrrrr!) Compressor

I have to replace the a/c compressor on a '92 TBI and I'm looking for buying alternatives. The brand I'm replacing appears to be the OEM "Harrison". I've read that the Sanden compressors are very efficient (they're used on aftermarket add-ons for 'hot-rods') but of course they are shaped differently, so I'd have to make a new bracket, move other components, etc. to use one.

So...does anyone have any recent experience with replacement compressors...would you say the OEM replacements are good enough to not mess with new brackets...or would you say that the best compressor is the (fill in the blank) and it's so superior I should get it... even though I'll have to do some fabrication to make it fit.

Lastly, any ideas on sources with the best pricing? Thanks very much. Dave

Well, with a 305 TPI/4L60 in a Mercedes, I'd guess you could make about anything work, but the old reliable R4 is hard to beat and the price is usually right. I'd stick with it if the capacity is right for the car.
