Does anyone have the CHP article on the Agent 87 350????
Does anyone have the CHP article on the Agent 87 350????
I got the latest issue of CHP and they did a test of the motor at the track, anyway I want to know bout the buildup of this motor; it gets 390 HP at the crank, and while 350 ft lbs is not the peak torque, it sees that at 2400 RPM's and that doesnt sound too bad. They give a partial parts list but I'm just wondering if this is the same as the 6" rod motor i've heard about before. anwyay if anyone has this article scanned i would apreciate a post of it or if you could email it to me....
thanks

I can't help ya out w/ the scan of the article, but I will post some details from the article when I get home.
What did it run at the track (and what car was it in)? Just curious.

It was in I think a 65 El Camino with a 350 Turbo and 4.11 gears. It ran a corrected 13.13 at 103. Very good for a relatively heavy vehicle on 87 octane (my opinion).

w/o looking those numbers sound pretty correct. basically i need to know the rod length, as well as verifying the rest of the components, I believe they ran the comp xtreme 268 cam, vortec heads w/ a vortec rpm manifold, a set of hedmans (i think) and a holley 675 cfm, all w/ 8.75:1 compression. i was thinking about building that motor and bumping the compression up to maybe 9.5:1 because the 87 octane isnt so important to me, it's just the thing that caught my eye. anyway if you could dig up that article it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, according to the article they used a new cast Scat crank and resized stock rods. They used Speed Pro pistons w/ a D-shaped 21cc dish. That along w/ the box stock 64cc Vortecs and a Fel-pro head gasket w/ a compressed thickness of .041 inch yielded roughly 8.75:1 compression w/ the block milled to acheive "as close to zero deck height as possible".
They indeed did use the CompCams 268 cam, w/ a Performer RPM intake and a Road Demon 625 cfm carb. They tested a 750 cfm carb and said there was no gain. The distributor they used was a Pertronix HEI unit. They made the best power w/ the stock jetting in the Road Demon (which they don't state what size jets that is) and 36 degrees of total timing.
They used Hedman Elite 1 5/8" headers for the exhaust.
It should also be noted, that while they make no mention of it in the article what-so-ever, they include 1.6 rockers in their part number list, and give the lift for the cam for both 1.5 and 1.6 rockers. Leads me to believe they also left out adding better springs to the Vortecs (lift w/ 1.6ers was .508/.512). Would have been nice to get those few extra details but hey...
Anyway, peak power was 390 hp at 6000 rpm and 427 ft-lbs at 4000 rpm on 87 octane gas.
